Update Your Resume Frequently!

As a matter of habit, one should consider reviewing their resume approximately every six months. Customize your resume and cover letter for a particular position and organization. This rule especially applies when one is not getting the desired results in a career search. An effective resume should reflect the "value-add" to the prospective employer and should list key accomplishments and state the results that occurred from their efforts.
Your cover letter is the first impression. The cover letter should describe the specific position to which you are applying and your qualifications for that position. Conduct research on every organization to which you might send your resume and cover letter to, in order to separate yourself from the competition applying for that same position. To begin, review the company web site and gather information on the company’s products, financials and get a good understanding of the company’s mission statement and a sense of what the organizations strategy is regarding ethnic markets. You will find that several organizations are researching and investing in new products to attract the Hispanic market more effectively and may have subsidiaries that are not known on the surface.
We all know how important a resume is, but some of us do not put forth that effort when creating, updating and managing our resume. The quickest way to have your resume ready for the next job is to retrieve a copy of your current job description and add it immediately to your resume upon the start of each new job. As these responsibilities grow, add them to your resume. Every six months take a look at your resume and check for errors. You will find yourself re-writing sections of your resume each time you review it and approving of its contents and ability to become the first impression that truly reflects who you are.
The iHispano.com Career Center has new positions that have been posted from leading companies. This is a good time to review your resume and perhaps customize changes from your research to enhance your chances of getting an interview!
